Pastor Jimi Odukoya breaks silence amid second marriage backlash

Pastor Jimmy Odukoya, the senior pastor of Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, Lagos, has broken his silence amid the backlash trailing his second marriage. The cleric has faced criticism on social media following the announcement of his marriage to his new wife, Mo Odukoya, whom he formally introduced to his congregation during a Sunday service on November 1, 2026.

The development came days after Odukoya sparked speculation online by sharing a photograph of a man’s hand and a woman’s hand, both wearing rings, alongside a caption hinting at a new beginning.

During Sunday’s service, the pastor invited Mo to the stage and introduced her to the congregation as his wife. He explained that he had remained single since taking over the leadership of the church but eventually decided to remarry, citing the biblical principle that it is not good for a man to be alone.

Pastor Tunde Bakare, who reportedly blessed the union, disclosed that Mo Odukoya is the daughter of Reverend Theophilus and Bolaji Daniel. She will now be known as Pastor Mo Odukoya, the new first lady of Fountain of Life Church.

Jimmy Odukoya was previously married to Kemi Odukoya, with whom he shares children.

Following the announcement, some social media users criticised the pastor for remarrying, while others congratulated him and defended his decision to move forward with his life.

An X user identifed as A.Adebanji wrote; “A Pastor with an earring getting married to a woman with a nose ring is disappointing, and I am disappointed.

I just watched the videos and photos of Jimmy Odukoya officially introducing his wife to the church today. I noticed the wife has a nose ring while he himself has an earring.

As a Christian, this does not go down well with me. I also feel God is not pleased either. What message are they sending to the Christian community? I am disappointed. ….From concerned Nigerian…”

Amid the reactions, Odukoya took to social media to address the controversy, sharing a message suggesting that people should not pressure or condemn him over his personal decisions.

The pastor wrote: “If you cannot die for me, don’t pressure me and if you did not die for me, you cannot condemn me.”

His statement has added another dimension to the online conversation surrounding his remarriage, with social media users continuing to express differing views about the cleric’s decision.
