The pancreas is an organ located deep inside the abdomen. It helps the body digest food and regulate blood sugar. Pancreatic cancer can be difficult to detect early because the pancreas is deep within the body and symptoms may not appear until the disease has progressed.
1. Yellow eyes or skin: Pancreatic cancer near the head of the pancreas can block the bile duct, causing jaundice. Yellowing of the eyes needs prompt medical assessment.
2. Dark urine and pale stool: Changes in urine and stool colour can occur when bile flow is blocked. These symptoms are particularly concerning when accompanied by jaundice.
3. Unexplained weight loss: Losing weight without trying may be one of the signs of pancreatic cancer, although many other conditions can cause it.
4. Pain in the upper abdomen: Some people experience pain in the upper stomach area that may spread towards the back.
5. Loss of appetite: A person may begin eating less because of discomfort, nausea or feeling full quickly.
6. New or worsening diabetes: In some people, pancreatic cancer is associated with newly developed diabetes or unexpected changes in blood sugar control.
7. Persistent digestive problems: Nausea, changes in bowel movements or difficulty digesting fatty foods can occur, although these symptoms are not specific to cancer.
Final thoughts: These signs do not prove that someone has pancreatic cancer. Many common illnesses can produce similar symptoms. However, unexplained jaundice, weight loss or persistent abdominal pain should be investigated. A doctor may recommend blood tests and imaging scans. Do not delay assessment because you are trying herbal treatments first.
