Viral moment foreigner pays traders to free sea turtles and return them to the ocean as police intervene (Video)

A Nigerian man has shared an emotional encounter with a foreigner who rescued sea turtles from traders selling the animals along a roadside near Eko Hotel in Lagos. The incident reportedly happened as the man was leaving the hotel when he spotted some traders attempting to sell a sea turtle by the roadside.

According to him, a foreigner who witnessed the situation immediately intervened, challenging the traders and pleading with people around, including police officers, to stop the sale of the marine animal.

Despite initially appearing to be the only person speaking up for the animal, the foreigner remained determined to ensure the turtles were not sold.

He eventually paid the traders for the sea turtles, not to keep them but to secure their release and give them another chance to survive in their natural habitat.

Sharing the experience on social media, the Nigerian man, identified as @this_is_folarin, expressed gratitude to the foreigner for showing compassion and taking action to protect the animals.

He also reflected on what could have happened if nobody had intervened, questioning what would have become of the turtles if the foreigner had simply ignored the situation.

Encouraging people to protect marine wildlife, he urged traders and members of the public to allow sea turtles to live freely in their natural environment.

He wrote:

“Today, I witnessed something that genuinely broke my heart but also restored a little of my faith in humanity.

“While leaving Eko Hotel, I came across some men trying to sell a sea turtle in the middle of the road, as though it were just another ordinary item of trade. What happened next was both heartbreaking and inspiring.

“A foreign man stopped, determined not to let it happen. He shouted, pleaded, and did everything he could to make the people around him, including the uniformed police officers present, understand that this was wrong. Sadly, it seemed like his voice was the only one speaking up for a creature that couldn’t speak for itself.

“But he didn’t give up.

“Eventually, he paid the men for the turtle, not to own them, but to give them another chance at life. With the help of a police van, the turtles were taken back to the sea and released into their natural home.

“I couldn’t help but think: What if nobody had stopped? What if nobody cared?
