‘You don’t sit between them’: LAX’s mother faces criticism over her action at singer’s wedding to partner Ella (Watch)

Deaconess Shade Afolabi, the mother of popular Nigerian singer Damilola Abdul Razaq Afolabi, professionally known as LAX, has sparked mixed reactions online following her action at her son’s wedding.

Recall that Entertainment Region previously reported that the “Ginger” hitmaker held his lavish traditional wedding with his partner, Ella, on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

The wedding attracted several prominent personalities from Nigeria’s political, traditional and entertainment circles, making it one of the major celebrity events of the weekend.

LAX’s billionaire father, Taiwo Afolabi, reportedly hosted an array of distinguished guests, including former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience Jonathan; the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi; and the Elegushi of Ikate-Elegushi, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi.

Other notable guests included the Oniru of Iruland, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal (Abisogun II); Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun; former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun; and Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, among others.

However, a video of LAX’s mother, Shade Afolabi, a businesswoman and entrepreneur, has attracted attention on social media following the wedding ceremony.

In the clip making the rounds online, Shade was seen approaching her son and his bride, Ella, while they were seated next to each other. She subsequently sat between the newlyweds, a moment that has generated discussion among social media users.

While some viewers considered the gesture harmless and described LAX as a “mummy’s boy,” others criticised the singer’s mother, arguing that she should have allowed the couple to sit together without placing herself between them.

The video has since sparked mixed reactions, with social media users sharing different opinions about the mother’s gesture and the boundaries between parents and newly married couples.
