Prominent Ondo businessman and owner of Esther Estate, Akinbolusere Kayode, popularly known as Tolufe, has reportedly died by suicide hours after releasing an emotional video in which he spoke about challenges affecting his family and business.
Kayode was said to have died on Thursday, although the circumstances surrounding his death remained unclear.
In the video, the real estate businessman spoke about his decision to will his properties to his wife, Akinbolusere Esther, and their three children, who are based in Canada. He maintained that he made the decision voluntarily and acknowledged his wife’s support throughout his life and business journey.
“I am doing this video on behalf of my family. I, Akinbolusere Kayode, am doing my will on my properties. I am doing this on my own; nobody put pressure on me. I woke up and left for work, leaving my family at home,” he said.
Kayode also recounted experiencing problems with two machines he used for his work, describing the incidents as part of the difficulties he had been facing.
He explained that he built his business from scratch and had always been transparent about his journey, adding that his wife understood the challenges he encountered while trying to establish himself.
The businessman praised his wife for standing by him when he had little, recalling his earlier days working as a barber and describing her as supportive throughout their journey.
“My wife stood by me when I had nothing and never for once wronged me. She was very supportive when I had nothing, especially when I was working as a barber. I was the one who destroyed everything with carelessness,” he stated.
Abayomi Jimoh, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, reportedly confirmed the businessman’s death.
Meanwhile, the video has generated reactions on social media, with some users questioning the circumstances surrounding its release and alleging that Kayode might have been pressured or threatened into making it. However, the allegations have not been independently established.
