Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has sparked reactions after stepping onto the runway alongside professional models at the 2026 Lagos Fashion Week. The governor turned heads at the fashion event as he showcased a stylish outfit designed by Nigerian fashion designer Ugo Monye. He wore regal off-white attire that blended the appearance of a caftan and a kimono, paired with a beige fedora to complete his look.
61-year-old Sanwo-Olu confidently walked down the runway, flashing peace signs and nodding at the cheering audience as he joined models to showcase the designer’s work.
The 2026 edition of Lagos Fashion Week, themed “CRAFTED: Heritage”, began last Wednesday at the Federal Palace Hotel in Lagos and is scheduled to end on Sunday.
Sharing his experience on his official Instagram page, the governor described the runway appearance as a welcome break from his regular duties.
“ I stepped away from the usual business of governance to walk the runway for the incredibly talented Ugo Monye at Lagos Fashion Week.
“Full-time Governor, full-time public servant and for one night, part-time model. I had a really good time.
“Well done, Ugo, and congratulations to everyone making Lagos a home for creativity, fashion and talent,” he wrote.
In another post, Sanwo-Olu reiterated his support for the fashion industry and other creative talents contributing to Lagos State’s growing reputation as a centre for culture and entertainment.
“I had a great time on the runway at Lagos Fashion Week.
“Lagos continues to grow as a home for fashion, creativity and culture and I am always happy to support the people driving this growth.
“I am proud of our creatives who continue to push boundaries and put Lagos firmly on the global fashion stage.
“This is Lagos. We move different,” the governor added.
Sanwo-Olu’s appearance at the fashion event highlights his public support for the state’s creative industry, which includes fashion, music, film and entertainment.
