‘His mother has been crying in Ghana, we want justice’: Father of 15-year-old Ghanaian boy killed on his way to school in USA speaks (Watch)

The father of 15-year-old Ghanaian boy Javits Frimpong, who was fatally shot while walking to school in the Bronx, New York, has called for justice, saying his son’s death has left the family devastated.

In an emotional account, the grieving father, Thomas Frimpong, said the boy’s mother, who is in Ghana, had been inconsolable since hearing the news and was struggling to accept that her son was dead.

“His mother could not talk. She is crying. She said unless she sees his body, she does not believe in her son’s death,” he said.

Frimpong also expressed his determination to see those responsible held accountable, urging anyone involved in the killing to surrender to the police.

“I will tell them to give themselves to the police. I don’t think they will go free for killing an innocent child. I lost him. Why should I? I don’t know what to do now,” he said.

He added that he had lived in the United States for 26 years but had never experienced anything as devastating as losing his son in such circumstances.

Javits, 15, was shot in the stomach at about 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2026, while heading to school near Crotona Park in the Bronx. According to reports, he managed to run about a block after being shot before collapsing. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

The teenager had moved from Ghana to New York about a year ago to join his father in search of better opportunities.

His father believes the shooting may have been connected to bullying at school. He disclosed that the school principal had informed him three days before the incident that two students had been bullying Javits and had been suspended for a week.

Frimpong said school officials had described his son as innocent in a recent altercation, adding that Javits had been defending himself.

“The principal told me Javits is innocent. Javits is innocent. He was defending himself,” he said.

Describing his late son, the grieving father said, “My son was precious, very clever.”

He also recalled that his last conversation with Javits before he left for school that morning involved reminding him to get to school on time.

Meanwhile, police are searching for three teenage boys in connection with the fatal shooting. Investigators reportedly obtained surveillance footage showing a suspect fleeing the scene in a black hoodie, black sweatpants and a face mask. The suspects were also described as wearing black tracksuits and blue surgical masks.

As of the moment of filling this content, no arrests had been reported, and authorities had not confirmed whether the alleged bullying was connected to the shooting.

Javits’ family is now demanding justice as they struggle to come to terms with the loss of the teenager, whose life was cut short while on his way to school.
