Nigerian content creator and comedian Cute Abiola, popularly known as Lawyer Kunle, has sparked reactions online after breaking down on camera while appealing to President Bola Tinubu over the country’s poor electricity supply and extreme heat.
The skit maker shared the emotional video on his social media pages on Thursday, November 5, 2026, where he expressed frustration over the persistent power outages and the difficulty of coping with the hot weather.
In the viral clip, Cute Abiola repeatedly called on President Tinubu to intervene, switching between English and Nigerian Pidgin as he struggled to express his frustration.
The comedian disclosed that even his solar power system, which he had installed as an alternative to the unreliable national electricity supply, had stopped working, leaving him without a dependable source of electricity.
Appearing visibly distressed, he lamented that Nigerians were facing too much hardship, particularly with the combination of poor electricity supply and unbearable heat.
He also expressed disappointment that even people who had invested in alternative power sources were still struggling to enjoy a steady electricity supply.
In the video, Cute Abiola was heard repeatedly calling the president’s attention to his situation, pleading with him to help Nigerians find relief from the ongoing challenges.
He said: “President Tinubu, President Tinubu, Solar mi tiku (my solar is off), President Tinubu, solar mi tiku. My solar is off, sir. I swear, my solar is off right now. I swear.
“President Tinubu, help us, sir. Please, in God’s name, the suffering is too much. There is no light, for God’s sake. E dakun, torí Ọlọrun (please, for God’s sake), abeg, abeg.
“Buy solar, buy solar, solar sef dey off, solar sef dey off, solar sef dey off. Oh my God, my life.”
His emotional appeal has resonated with many Nigerians who continue to grapple with frequent electricity outages, rising living costs and the additional expense of maintaining alternative power sources.
Nigeria has continued to face challenges with electricity generation and distribution, forcing many households and businesses to depend on petrol generators, inverters and solar installations.
However, the high cost of purchasing and maintaining these alternatives has made reliable electricity increasingly difficult for many Nigerians to afford.
Cute Abiola’s video has consequently drawn attention to the frustration of citizens who spend heavily on alternative electricity solutions but still struggle to escape the country’s persistent power challenges.
Note that the sudden increase in temperatures across Nigeria and other Sahelian African countries has been linked to the trending climate phenomenon known as El Niño.
What is El Niño?
El Niño is a natural weather phenomenon that causes changes in ocean temperatures, which can lead to extreme heat, unusual rainfall patterns and other weather changes in different parts of the world.
According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the 2026 El Niño is getting stronger and is expected to continue into early 2027.
The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) also reported in October 2026 that the weather phenomenon could remain strong or very strong between January and March 2027.
Nigeria is among the countries expected to feel the impact of the changing weather conditions.
A report by Premium Times on November 3, 2026, raised concerns about rising temperatures and changes in rainfall patterns across Nigeria, warning of possible effects on people’s health and agricultural activities.
A report by the University of Chicago’s Climate Impact Lab estimated that Nigeria could record about 31,400 additional heat-related deaths between September 2026 and February 2027 as a result of extreme temperatures linked to El Niño.
However, a more recent estimate from the Climate Impact Lab’s El Niño Heat Mortality Tracker puts the projected number at about 56,000 additional heat-related deaths in Nigeria between October 2026 and March 2027.
